The wonderful thank you that Damar Services made for the team with each of our handprints
Today was our last day at Damar services. We started our day by continuing with banner making! We really wanted to do something for Mike since it's the last day we'll be working with him. By showing our appreciation for all that he has done for us, we decided to surprise him with a banner of his own!
Afterwards, we cleaned up all the prom stuff from the gym and had some time to do recreational activities. Next on the agenda was swimming! There were more kids around today to play and we all spent a nice time with them. However, we had to leave pretty quickly in order to keep up with our schedule. We had classroom time next and we hid Easter eggs! The children were really focused while looking for the eggs and one of them even found an egg with a dollar in it! It was all very exciting. After the egg hunt, we stayed in the classroom to talk/bond with the children and learned more about them/what they are going to do over spring break. After that, we filled some more Easter eggs to prepare for another upcoming Easter event at Damar.
Our very last activity at Damar was playing board games! We set up a few games: uno, jenga & headbands. Everybody's competitive nature came out as the games begun. Lots of sneaky cards were played & headbands resulted in lots of laughter at random guesses. This experience was lots of fun but also a little bit sad as we realized that our time at Damar was coming to an end. After a few more minutes of extra game board time upon the request of the kids, it was time to say goodbye.
It was not easy to say goodbye to a place that helped us grow in so many ways & in such short time. Although our time at Damar is over now, the experiences we shared will be carried with care in each of our hearts. We hope to continue to spread awareness about our social justice issue and to continually strive to realize the maximum potential in people with disabilities. Our time at Damar services has given us a better understanding about disabilities. As a team we--AB Damar are not yet done! Stay tuned to learn more about our future projects as we continue to work together to tackle the social justice issue of disabilities.
Xoxo,
