Today was our first day at Damar Services!
We got to meet the staff & got acquainted with the facility. After the orientation we were met by the friendly faces of the kids at Damar! First activity: DODGEBALL! We felt a little bit of nervous excitement as we lined up for the game but we got our game faces on the moment the game started. Next on the agenda was lunch! We got to see how the cafeteria operated and where the kids eat every day. We interacted with different children throughout the day in various settings and all of us shared different memories with the people at Damar. After lunch, we had time to go swimming with some of the children and had tons of fun. Last on the agenda was classroom time. We had the chance to go into two classrooms to interact with the children. However, due to our arrival being pretty unexpected, we didn’t get to do much other than observe what the classroom setting was like. We did get to meet some of the children in the classroom along with the friendly staff that took care of them. There were sweet moments but also difficult moments on our first day there. As it was our first day meeting the children, we approached with caution and excitement. We all experienced some sort of challenging moment since it definitely a different environment than most of us were used to. Nevertheless, this first day was an eye-opening experience for all of us.
