2015 is officially underway and we are back preparing for our trip in just 9 short weeks! We have started our education component in preparation. This means that each week we will have a pair of team members present on a topic. These include history of mental illness, understanding different types of mental illness, work being done in our community, as well as information about the city of Indianapolis.
The first presentation was completed this week by our lovely site leaders and community advisor: Joie, Zenas, and Diode. They presented on why we are doing our trip and started out with this thought provoking Ted talks excerpt.

So why are we doing this trip?
We believe in being hard working active citizens in our community, by putting others before ourselves, educating ourselves and others about social justice issues, and working on giving back to our community any way that we can. Specifically, we believe in advocating for those with physical and mental disabilities. We want to help them unveil their own voice and be able to go forth and change the world around them.
Throughout the rest of our training and our trip we will keep returning to this idea and reminding ourselves why we are doing this and working on planning "from the inside out."
